Training Approach & Techniques
Our approach to training takes the entire goaltender into consideration, not just glove saves or butterfly saves. With our students we first establish a sound foundation of goaltending movement and save fundamentals. We can then build more advanced skills upon this foundation utilizing strength and reaction training, our Focused Neuromuscular Training techniques, and advanced goaltending techniques including shot prevention, play anticipation, save selection, and post-save response. We do not focus on one style or technique such as "butterfly" or "stand-up" or "hybrid." We utilize every known, and even develop new, save techniques to provide the goaltender with the most comprehensive goaltending repetoir.
We work hand-in-hand with our sports trainer, Joshua Ortegon, NSCA, CSCS, co-founder of Sport-Speed-Strength Training, to maximize the goaltender's athletic potential through off-ice training utilizing the principles of athletic trainer Mark Verstegen's Core Performance program.
We utilize the GoalerOne slideboard system for off-ice training of butterfly slide techniques, energy system development, core stability, and recover techniques. This same system is utilized by several NHL teams including the Montreal Canadians.
